Cheap Tele for customisation - suggestions please!

Posted by Sada Yairi in Electric Guitar

- My collection (a classical, a Dot and a Wildkat) is lacking a hardbody. I've actually never owned one and I'm thinking it's about time that changed. Whilst looking around before I bought the Wildkat recently I tried a lot of different guitars including solidbodies so I have learned a bit recently about what I like and what I don't like. At this stage I'm thinking that I'd like to get myself a cheap Tele body and customise it. My Wildkat (with its beautiful P90s) is my number 1, but I'm thinking it would be fun to have a cheap Tele that I can play around with, modify etc. What would you lot recommend? I'd like something that's decently built, but cheap. The electronics can be lousy because I'll swap them out, it's really the body I'm after. Ideally I'd like the guitar to have no brand name on it cos I'd like it to be just my own personalised little baby. I've had a look at Rondos (very cheap) and even some cheap no-names on ebay like this one:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&item=261023344498&nma=true&rt=nc&si=qEFHw7TTVkwPzbvA%252BvvgFYUdX%252F4%253D&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&clk_rvr_id=343306319123

The only requirement will be that I want to run twin humbuckers, and ideally I'd like a higher radius neck (maybe even 12inch). Any thoughts?

Bad Habit?

Posted by Will - Rosedale MD in Bass Guitar

- I've been playing bass for about 20 years now. (used to mostly play 6 string electric before that) I got into the habit of using a pick for my bass and now I think I would like to break that habit and play mostly finger picking. I find myself using only one finger when i try. it works ok but I know I could be more effective and faster if I could use at least two fingers. any pointers on how to practice this? Exercises?

I sold it back in 1983 for peanuts

Big mistake

It's going to cost me between $1,700- to $2,500- to get an exact replacement.

(depending on condition)

It looked exactly like the one pictured

same case and everything

Recommendations - New Electric Guitar after 34 years

Posted by aghylin in Electric Guitar

- I have been playing a Music Man Sting Ray II - essentially a Strat copy - since 1978. I love and it and it is serving my part-time musician purposes well. However would like to see what else is out there.

Looking for something that plays nice, good sound, durable. I have a maple neck now and would probably stick with that.

Any recommendations for what I should try? Thanks.

Description:
Here's a shredfest recorded exclusively with a Marshall JVM 410H Miced with a sure 57. (My Favourite!) I also used an EVH Wolfgang Special to create this furious mangling of every note I could get my hands on! Recorded in Logic, The drums were made with EZDrummer DFH, and the bass and keys sequenced in Logic of course. It was pretty fun and I played my guts out so I hope you like it! I was trying to achieve a loud "on the verge of exploding mix" and I think I was pretty close.

So yeah, if you like progressive rock with heavy emphasis on guitar, then check it out. Thanks in advance for listening, folks.

hi kids, your old friend daveasdf here this account is unbanned, took 6 years, lol.

anyway, here's a demo of my last acoustic tune i'm going to do. have a new DAW, studio one 2 pro, and have NI guitar rig 5, so after a decade of not being able to record distortion properly living in apartments, now i can.

i'm living in the philippines with my wife and kid, just working on tunes. they're all demos and i'm still trying to figure out sounds etc, getting back into music. spent the last 5 years moving furniture.

this is the first song i did when we moved here - recorded it wrong, lots of bass, so i had to eq it large and it peaks out all over resulting in bad sound. also, the middle should be a chorus and break, then chorus but i hadn't figured it out and i don't think i ever will.

swear word in the last verse

good to be back!

phantom power question

Posted by daveasdf in Electric Guitar

- i've got a small 4 channel mic preamp that has a phantom power button. i also have an electric guitar and a daw and NI guitar rig.

i understand the concept of phantom power in relation to condenser mics (for whatever reason it makes them audible - sends active power through xlr to mic, balanced blah blah blah) but i was curios to know what happens when i plug my unbalanced 1/4" electric guitar chord into the preamp with the phantom power on. i accidentally recorded with it on yesterday, and although the background hum is loud when playing with dirt, the guitar sounds bigger and has more sustain.

is it bad or is it good, or am i just imagining the difference. thanks

also, hi i'm back i have a kid and am currently living in the philippines.

P-94 or Phat Cats (Which to choose; How easy is it to insert them?)

Posted by laquatos in Electric Guitar

- Hi,

I have a Epiphone Elitist Les Paul Custom and I would like to have that classic P-90 sound. I can't put P-90's because of the hole size so I would like to put something as near as possible to a P-90. I play mainly Rock, but with several influences from blues and funk. Some influences are: Red Hot, ZZ top, Led Zeppelin etc. I have two questions:

1) Which of these pickups do you advice? (You can also tell if you advice others or neither)

2) Do I need to buy anything else to insert the pickups? (pots, electronic parts, etc). How easy is it to install them?

Thank you!!!

Best Regards,
Rui

the "right" way to wind guitar strings?

Posted by matveimediaarts in Electric Guitar

- I took my guitar in to have the neck issue diagnosed (turns out it was a truss rod issue), and my tech said that I wind too much string. When I was a kid, my teacher taught me how to wind strings so that the entire string is used (creating a very large wind of string on the peg, of course). This, I was told, keeps the strings in tune better. What are the true facts about this issue? Is a few really winds enough?

- My guitar lessons are disturbing everyone. I live ina small house and my neighbour is a ass who I can hear laughing everytime I try too play , which really puts me off also my brothers asleep by the time I want to preactice cause we both do night shifts.

So is there a way to lower the noise. I can use headphones on my laptop but can i get some strings that'll work. Somebody please help. It's been 2 years but I've only covered the chords because of these problems.

I found another one on EBAY and grabbed it with the proceeds from yesterdays gig. I want more signal and no hum and this is the pickup that is going to give it to me.
